How To Implement Feng Shui Principals in Your Home

Project: Minyama, Sunshine Coast

The aim of Feng Shui is to promote chi, or good energy, in your environment. Feng Shui determines the best place to build a home or office building, and where to place furniture and other household items within the building. Feng Shui is believed to balance a range of different elements, like yin and yang (male and female) and the five elements of Taoism, which are said to make up the entire world; these are fire, wood, metal, earth, and water. When these elements are balanced, harmony will exist in your home.

Every single thing in the universe is comprised of energy, and every single thing operates on an energy map. You can manipulate these energy forces into negative energy, or positive energy. The concept of yin and yang is based on the philosophical balance of positive and negative forces in the universe. By introducing the elements of Feng Shui, this concept can now be applied to the field of interior design.

Tips For Updating Your Kitchen Without a Full Renovation

The kitchen is unfortunately one of the quickest rooms in your home to become outdated, and we say ‘unfortunately’ because it’s also the most expensive room to remodel. However, there’s good news, because you can update your kitchen without having to complete a major renovation. As you may know, a full kitchen renovation can be costly, inconvenient, and time consuming, but you may not realise that a quick kitchen makeover can be cost- and time effective, and easier than you may think.

Planning a New or Renovated Kitchen? Here Are Our Top Tips for Designing The Perfect Kitchen

Careful planning is key to a beautiful and functional kitchen. It takes time, research, and sometimes the help of a professional to ensure you get everything exactly the way you want it. Consider the following tips when designing your kitchen, remembering that this room needs to not only look great, it must be functional and prepared for hard work!

It’s imperative that your kitchen be a room you enjoy spending time in, regardless of whether you’re cooking or cleaning. The kitchen is arguably the most important room in a home, so if you find the prospect of carrying out a kitchen renovation completely overwhelming, we suggest you start by compiling a list of ideas and specific items you would like in your new kitchen. This is a great starting point, and you can always be flexible with these ideas as the project advances.

Why A Round Dining Table Might Be Your Best Option

Have you noticed that dining rooms in new homes and apartments are getting smaller and smaller? This is probably because builders are aware that ‘formal’ dining rooms are not often used anymore, and the extra area is now needed in either the kitchen or family room. And while these smaller dining rooms are typically square, or almost square, most dining tables in retail stores are rectangular, which is great if you have a rectangular room!

Rectangular dining room tables can seat many guests, it’s true, but what purpose does a long table serve if it barely fits in a small square dining room?

How To Clean and Maintain Your Outdoor Furniture

Today, fun-loving Aussies are spending more and more time relaxing, dining, and entertaining in their outdoor areas, and they wouldn’t have it any other way because they thrive on the combined indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

The furniture pieces we choose for our outdoor areas are usually high-quality and designed specifically for outdoor use, which means they’re built to endure the elements for many years. Of course that doesn’t mean we don’t have to give our outdoor furniture some TLC to ensure it continues looking good and lasts well.

At Abide Interiors we have some great outdoor furniture pieces to add to your all-weather furniture.

How To Choose The Right Bedhead for Your Bedroom

Palms bedhead

Bedheads, also referred to by some people as headboards, is a board or other material, like wicker, timber, tufted upholstery or other fabric, which is affixed to the top of a bed behind your head. They’re decorative panels which are placed at the head of a bed to provide comfort and style.

Today we’re seeing a resurgence in the popularity of bedheads, with many designers and retailers showing new interest in this bedroom mainstay. Creating a faux headboard or affixing a chic bedhead to your current ensemble is the easiest way to re-style your bedroom.

A stylish bedhead creates a focal point and instantly transforms a bedroom. In fact, many interior designers believe that no bedroom is complete without a bedhead. A bedroom without a bedhead is likely to look unfinished and perhaps a little unloved, so whether you’re looking to update your existing bedhead or adding to an ensemble (bed base and mattress), let’s take a closer look at the options available to you.
